If there's a noticeable trend in diamond engagement rings, it's that people are having fun with them!
Following a long period in the 1990s when a traditional, minimalist look was much in demand, today's brides are more interested in expressing themselves with different diamond shapes. They're falling in love with fancy shapes, such as ovals, marquises and princess cuts. Branded cuts continue to gain popularity.
"Vintage" looks are popular as never before. Styling derived from the Art Deco tradition has become the rage in fine jewelry fashion, and this is carrying over to engagement rings. Ideas such as a micro-pav border around a center stone are borrowed from that earlier tradition, and are sure to become classic looks. Platinum settings in a style reminiscent of the early 1900s are likewise popular, and likely to "hold their style."
Fancy-colored diamonds are an exciting choice, but the cost of a very fine pink or canary diamond, for instance, can be prohibitively expensive. If you like color, another option is to set off a white center diamond with colored side stones.
Many couples are taking advantage of the latest laser technology to have a microscopic secret message engraved on the girdle of their diamond.
